The Medicinal Herb Mate – The Natural Enemy Of Migraines

Excessive consumption of caffeine promotes migraines. Mate tea dilates the blood vessels, thus promoting blood circulation and reducing pressure.

The medicinal herb mate - the natural enemy of migraines

Alternative medicine experts recommend  mate for severe headaches and especially for migraines.

Mate comes from South America and is also known as Jesuit tea. The plant consists of alkaloids, which are related to caffeine and also have a stimulating effect.

Due to their  chemical structure, however, the effects are not as strong as with coffee.

The most effective ingredients are: caffeine, essential oil, tannic acid, theobromine, chlorophyll, vanillin, vitamins A, B1, B2, C, minerals, flavonoids, chlorogenic acid, saponins, caffeoyl-quinic acids, inositol and trigonelline.

Mate has been used for many years as a powerful drink with energy-boosting properties and as a traditional means of weight loss. This plant also helps with concentration problems, depression, headaches and especially with migraines.

Can increase your energy

With 85 mg of caffeine per cup, mate contains less caffeine than coffee, but more than a cup of tea.

As with any other caffeinated food or drink, it can therefore lead to an increase in energy and less fatigue.

Caffeine can also affect certain signaling molecules in your brain, which is especially beneficial for your mental focus.

Several studies showed improved alertness and reaction time in participants who consumed a single dose of 37.5 to 450 mg of caffeine.

In addition, those who regularly consume mate report that their alertness is increased – but without the nervous side effects like coffee.

However, this has not yet been scientifically proven.

Mate brings relief from migraines!

Researchers believe that mate works against migraines because it contains high levels of alkaloids like caffeine, theobromine and theophylline, which are reduced by a substance called xanthan gum.

Experts recommend taking 200 mg of alkaloids per day to prevent migraines.

Other researchers believe that the caffeine or matein in the mate has the ability to regulate pain as the substance combines with the adenosine in nerve cells.

Adenosine, a neurotransmitter, has the ability to widen the blood vessels in the neck and head area, which leads to increased blood flow. In this way, the great pressure that is often the cause of headaches can be prevented.

It should be remembered, however, that drinking too many caffeinated beverages can have the opposite effect and lead to severe headaches.
