Ingredients:

  • 2 onions (medium, or one large)
  • 6 medium eggplants
  • minced lamb (400 gr)
  • grated cheese, suitable for melting (150 gr)
  • 2 large eggs
  • Cinnamon powder
  • nutmeg
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • salt
  • freshly ground pepper

1. The eggplant

  • First we wash and peel the eggplants and then cut them into pieces or strips.
  • Then we bring water to heat in a saucepan. Then we cook the eggplants in it for two minutes.
  • After this period, we take it out of the water and let it drain.
  • Now let’s season them with salt.
  • Then we put a lot of olive oil in a pan.
  • Then we fry the seasoned eggplants in it.
  • After they are fried, we put them on a plate with a piece of kitchen paper that will suck up the excess oil.

2. The meat

  • Now we cut the onions into small cubes.
  • Then we fry them in a pan with olive oil.
  • Before they brown, we add the minced lamb.
  • Then we wait until everything is well cooked.
  • Now we also add a spoonful of cinnamon and another nutmeg.
  • After the meat is done, we add the grated cheese.
  • We all have to mix the ingredients very thoroughly.

3. Arrange the moussaka in the oven dish

  • First we preheat the oven to 180ÂșC.
  • In the meantime, we set up our moussaka in the oven pan.
  • We use the aubergine strips as a base for this.
  • Then we put the meat over it.
  • Then put another layer of eggplant on top, and so on.
  • Finally we beat the eggs and pour them over the moussaka together with grated cheese.
  • Then we bake the moussaka in the oven for 30 minutes.
