Natural Home Remedies For Foot Odor

In combination with a base oil or with a moisturizing cream, essential oils can have an excellent effect against foot odor.

Natural home remedies for foot odor

The bad smell on the feet can be caused by fungus, by wearing unsuitable shoes, by increased sweating, the consequence of a bad diet, etc. There are home remedies that can help you  against foot odor.

Anxiety and stress, disorders of our metabolism or our hormones can also provoke bad smells.

Below we are going to introduce you to natural remedies that are easy to make and inexpensive. We’ll also give you some general advice on  how to combat foot odor by tackling the reasons that trigger it.

You should always consult a family doctor or dermatologist, especially if you have chronic foot odor. At the same time, you can use some natural remedies.

E ome medicine and food  can lead to increased sweating and bad odor. If you are one of those affected, you should be very consistent and stop consuming these foods.

Clay foot mask

Clay masks are highly recommended when we want to have more beautiful skin or when we want to relieve pain caused by inflammation. Clay also helps combat foot odor.

For this we can use either green or red clay. We mix the clay with lukewarm water until we get a viscous paste.

We rub it into our feet and then let the foot mask work for at least 20 minutes. Then the feet are washed with lukewarm water.

Since the clay also removes a bit of fluid from the skin, we should then rub our feet with a little almond oil or a moisturizing cream, for example.

It is best to use these foot masks once or twice a week. We can increase the effectiveness of the mask with the following products and procedures:

Essential oils

Essential oils are a popular therapeutic agent and help to make foot odor go away. To do this, we mix a few drops of the essential oil with a little vegetable oil (such as olive, sesame, almond, sunflower oil, etc.) or with our usual moisturizing cream.

Tea tree oil is highly recommended because it works extremely well against fungi and bacteria, which are responsible for the bad smell, among other things.

Lemon oil is also a good choice because it has an astringent and cleansing effect and also has a pleasant aroma.

Another essential oil we recommend is lavender, which has a cleansing and relaxing effect.

Foot baths

Foot baths with hot water were already used as a remedy in ancient times. They are very easy to prepare. We can add some baking soda to the water to remove the acid on the surface of the foot.

As an alternative, you can use coarse-grain sea salt, which also has a relaxing effect and helps us to relieve the swelling on our feet.

We mix two spoons of baking soda or sea salt into the water. It should be so hot that we can just bear it. Now we bathe our feet in this water for about half an hour. When the bath cools down, we add hot water.

We can take these baths every day before going to bed or combine them with other remedies.

Sulfur or boric acid in the shoes

During the day, we can prevent bad smells by adding a little sulfur or boric acid in powder form to our shoes. In this way we prevent excessive perspiration and the formation of fungi.

To do this, we simply put a little powder in our shoe and take care that the acid or sulfur does not come into contact with children or animals. After using it, we should wash our hands well.

General advice

Here are a few more general tips to help us naturally prevent foot odor:

  • Wear  footwear that is good at extracting sweat, especially in summer and when you play sports.
  • Wear  socks made from natural fabrics,  such as cotton. These are better than synthetic socks.
  • Drink plenty of water  between meals, at least six glasses a day.
  • Eat a balanced diet, rich in raw foods (fruits, lettuce, fruit juices, sprouts, etc.)
  • Ventilate your shoes well after wearing them  and do not wear the same shoes for several days.
