Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for best results.

If you want to clean oil and grease stains in the kitchen, it is  best to remove all disturbing objects first. So you can easily and thoroughly clean any surface. Then it is best to proceed as follows:

  • Open the window to avoid breathing in strong odors from the products. So you can ventilate the kitchen at the same time.
  • It’s best to use gloves when cleaning to protect your skin from the chemicals.
  • Follow the specific instructions on the cleaning product. It pays to take a few minutes to do this in order to achieve the best possible results. Note the recommended distance for an atomizer, the duration of action and the need to remove the product with water.
  • Spray on the degreaser and cover much of the soiled surface,  especially the heavily soiled areas.
  • Then let the product sit before you start cleaning. This can save you time and effort. In most cases, the action time is between 10 and 15 minutes, depending on the accumulation of fat.
  • Then rub the surface with a sponge and remove all grease and dirt residues. If the surface is granite, you can even use an aluminum sponge for heavily soiled areas. Before doing this, however, you should be sure not to damage the material. Try it on a very small, not very visible area.
  • Then remove any residue with a damp cloth.
  • If you still need to rinse off the product, you should definitely do that! Then you can dry the surface with a cloth.

Homemade degreaser

You can make your own degreaser with very simple ingredients.

In order to avoid harmful chemicals in the household, we recommend that you make  your own grease remover. This is quite simple:

  1. Mix two generous tablespoons of baking soda with a little water and use it on the dirty areas. If these are only slightly soiled, you can also use them to make a liquid that you put into a spray bottle. However, if  the fat is difficult to remove, it’s best to add a little water to the mixture to make a thick paste. You then rub the surface with it. Let the paste work, then remove it with water. Finally, all you have to do is dry the surface.
  2. Another option is to mix white vinegar with water (1 part vinegar and 4 parts water) and use it to clean the stained areas. Let the mixture sit for a few minutes, then wash it off with plenty of water.

You can clean a wide variety of surfaces with these two natural degreasers. Do you feel like trying them out? You probably have all of the ingredients at home and you’ve seen how easy it is to make. What are you waiting for?

Can you clean the walls with a degreaser?

Can you clean the walls with a degreaser?
Degreasers must be used with caution as they can damage certain surfaces.

Using a grease remover to remove stains on the walls is not a good idea. However, the quality of the product with which the walls were painted must also be taken into account. Some products can be cleaned with a degreaser,  while others will be damaged or lose their original color.

Before you start cleaning,  do a small test in a hidden place on the wall,  for example behind the sofa or behind a shelf. Once the product is dry, you can tell whether the texture or color of the paint is damaged or not.

If you notice stains on the wall caused by furniture rubbing against it or floor wax,  you can use toothpaste (white, not colored!). Anti-dandruff shampoo (also white or colorless) is also a good option. Simply moisten a cloth with it and rub a small amount on the stains. But you should also try these methods first in an invisible place.

Wood is very sensitive, so you should be very careful with aggressive products.

Many use degreasers  to remove stains from wooden furniture. However, this can ruin the whole furniture. Because degreasers contain very aggressive chemicals that can damage the wood.

If you have noticed stains that are difficult to remove on the wood,  we recommend that you dissolve some dishwasher detergent in water and use it to clean. Wet a cloth with it and rub the stain. You should dry the wood quickly afterwards to avoid damage. You can find more tips here: Natural care for wooden furniture: 5 tips

Degreasers are very useful around the house,  but always make sure that the product is actually suitable for the surface to be cleaned. Try this on a hidden spot before you start cleaning and damaging the entire surface.
